“Three Miles” – A Tribute to Miles Davis
The “Three Miles” concert is a heartfelt and contemporary homage to Miles Davis, the trumpeter who revolutionized jazz, bringing it into the modern era. The Gioia | Bonioli | Von Hessen trio interprets Davis’s great classics with sensitivity and creativity, offering modern-sounding arrangements faithful to the artist’s innovative spirit.
Miles Davis was an innovator, composer, and improviser capable of shaping new musical languages. From bebop to cool jazz, modal jazz to fusion with rock and electric sounds, Davis wrote unforgettable pages of music history. The legendary album “Kind of Blue” (1959), recorded with John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley, is considered by critics the greatest jazz album ever and one of the best-selling in the genre.
Miles Davis – Brief Biography
Born on May 26, 1926, in Alton, Illinois, Miles Dewey Davis III began playing trumpet as a boy. After studying at Juilliard School, he left formal studies early to join jam sessions with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, entering the bebop legend.
In the ’50s and ’60s, Davis led stellar ensembles with musicians like John Coltrane, Bill Evans, and Herbie Hancock. He was a pioneer of modal jazz and genre fusion, influencing generations of artists. He passed away in 1991, leaving a musical legacy that continues to inspire musicians and fans worldwide.
