A tribute to Ella Fitzgerald
Ella Fitzgerald is one of the brightest icons in jazz history: winner of 13 Grammy Awards, over 40 million records sold, a powerful, agile, and unmistakable voice. From her debut in the 1930s with Chick Webb’s orchestra, to legendary recordings with Louis Armstrong and the songbooks dedicated to the greatest American composers such as Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin, Ella set extremely high standards for vocal interpretation.
Ira Gershwin once said: “I never knew how good our songs were until I heard Ella Fitzgerald sing them.” A phrase that summarizes the unique impact of this artist on world music.
Women in jazz: strength, talent, and revolution
The evening will also be an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental role of women in jazz. Figures such as Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, pianist Mary Lou Williams, and saxophonist Vi Redd overcame social and cultural barriers, leaving an indelible mark on a male-dominated genre. This concert continues a tradition of events honoring female jazz pioneers, inspiring new generations of musicians.
