“Celebrating Quincy Jones” – A Musical Journey through Jazz, Swing, Soul and Pop
This special tribute was born from the passion and experience of band leader Massimo Pirone, an internationally renowned trombonist, who in 2005 collaborated with Quincy Jones himself at the MTV Music Awards.
Quincy Jones, a trumpeter but a great admirer of the trombone, always wanted the best trombone interpreters on his records, such as Frank Rosolino, J.J. Johnson, and Åke Persson. His unique career embraced many genres – from swing to rock, jazz to pop – collaborating with giants like Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Ross, and Michael Jackson.
The concert will retrace the milestones of this extraordinary career, presenting historical pieces from collaborations with Sinatra and Basie, up to pop masterpieces like Thriller and Off the Wall.
The Musicians
- Massimo Pirone – Trombone and arrangements
- Riccardo Fassi – Keyboards
- Luca Tozzi – Guitar
- Carlo Battisti – Drums
A cohesive ensemble that combines technical mastery with the ability to transmit emotions, paying tribute not only to an artist but to an entire musical era.
