The Gipsy Legacy Project features Lorenzo Bucci on lead guitar, Federico Procopio on rhythm guitar, and Giuseppe Civiletti on double bass.
The three musicians revisit the gypsy jazz tradition with virtuosity and passion. The repertoire includes Django Reinhardt standards, musette waltzes, and original trio compositions. Their performance recreates the atmosphere of Parisian cafés from the 1930s and 1940s, with tight interplay and engaging melodies. Who was Django Reinhardt?
Django Reinhardt was born on January 23, 1910, in Liberchies, Belgium, to Romani parents. A fire in 1928 left him with limited use of two fingers on his left hand, yet this did not prevent him from becoming one of the greatest guitarists in music history.
Alongside violinist Stéphane Grappelli, he founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France, one of the first European jazz ensembles, characterized by the dialogue between guitar and violin. His style blended Romani tradition with American jazz, giving birth to jazz manouche. During the 1940s and 1950s, Reinhardt performed with major jazz artists and toured the United States with Duke Ellington. His music continues to inspire guitarists worldwide and remains the foundation of the gypsy jazz repertoire.
